Smells like a nasty case of failure…
Recently, I put on a Black Friday sale, in which I sold 26 separate email content packages. It was over 200,000 words of content on various topics in the online marketing space.
All came with full PLR licenses.
And at $200 it equaled out to about $7.69 each. But if you consider that most people probably have several of the email packages (let’s say on average people owned 5 of the newsletters already) then…
…that means that they would be paying about $9.52 for the email packages they did not have. Still a pretty good deal, considering these packages sell for between $20 and $47.
Only one problem.
Nobody bought that package. And I have to tell you, it’s been quite a long time since I haven’t sold a single one of anything.
So it forces me to look at something I have been looking at the last couple of years.
What is the future of PLR in a world where Chat GPT and Gemini like products exist and they are cheap or free?
Now…
I could tell myself, “well you only ran a 2 day sale. It should have been a 4 day sale!”
Or, I could tell myself, “Obviously people still love PLR, you have a bunch of people in your Newsletter Club to prove that.”
Both of those things are true. And yet…that is not what my gut tells me.
My gut tells me that artificial intelligence like Chat GPT and Gemini are devaluing the perceived value of the written word and thus…
…devaluing private label rights licenses on the written word.
My gut tells me that it’s time to think about a pivot. A shuffling of the deck.
But this is an open letter to those on my list, in my community, and especially in my clubs.
I respect you as customers, peers in business, and fellow travelers and adventurers on these here interwebs…
…what do you think? Do you think PLR is going to go away? Matter less? Or do you think that A.I. is a non issue?
I believe that A.I. does not match what a human with experience in the field can write about. However…
…this is not a question of actual value. But one of perceived value.
Most people’s tap water is perfectly drinkable right out of their faucet. However, it doesn’t stop them from believing that they need some kind of filter on their tap and some kind of bottled water in their fridge.
So, in my view, A.I. is revolutionary. It is already changing things about how we live and work.
I hate it. I really do. It is disrupting an industry that I love. But…
…maybe…my view is biased and I am overestimating its potential and reach.
Some of my peers feel it is a non-factor. People tend to be on far ends of the spectrum with A.I.
They either fully embrace it, or they fully shun it, and ignore it.
Maybe my $200 offer was just a bad offer and I was not offering enough value.
Or maybe I did not convey the value properly on the sales page…
Or maybe I did not run the offer long enough…
Or maybe I should have added a couple of UNRELEASED newsletter packages to sweeten the deal for all those folks who already owned a few of those email packages…
Or maybe it was just too expensive for what it was regardless of how the price breaks down (even though I sold a similar package last year very successfully at the same price...)
But…
If I am being honest…
My gut tells me that the perceived value if the written word has decreased.
What do you think about A.I. and PLR content?
Feel free to respond to this and let me know. Always interested in what you think.

P.S. If you like this kind of "special feature DVD" style content that sometimes takes a look behind the scenes in my business, consider subscribing to my Substack, where I want to put stuff like that. I'm still trying to figure out what it is.
Most business owners are not into AI like us marketers, consultants, and coaches. I think there is still a place for “good” PLR.
What I have been doing is rewriting, updating and condensing much of what I have accumulated over the years. This allows me to repurpose it and continue to use it.
I could very well have been how you worded and packaged your offer. Change it up and try it again. I don’t think PLR is dead. Keep going 💪
