How to start an email list PT2.
So yesterday, I wrote you an email entitled, “How to start an email list.”
Seemed like you liked that one, and wanted to see part 2 so I thought I would continue our discussion on the subject.
First and foremost a recap, be sure to go back and read that first email for the details:
Recap
Step 1) Commit
Step 2) Lead Capture Page
Step 3) Leveraging Foundational Content
Step 4) Be a friend
Step 5) Be a friend Pt2
Step 6) Tap existing network
Step 7) Manual Outreach
Step 8) Be consistent in publishing
Now, like I said, if any of those steps don't make sense to you, be sure to go back and read my last email.
Okay, on to step 9.
Step 9) Create your first low ticket product -
Now comes the part where you need to create something to sell. It should solve a single problem in your niche. It should be immediately useful. It should be captivating. It should be less than 20 bucks.
Step 10) Add pitch to first 10 email autoresponder sequence -
Go ahead and add a P.S. (post scriptum) to the first 10 emails you added to your autoresponder before. This P.S. should pitch your low ticket product. A simple paragraph talking about why the product exists and why it can help them, with a link is fine.
Step 11) Bridge Page -
Okay now you need to set up a bridge page that people will go to after they opt-in on your lead capture page. On this page you will let them know that they are now subscribed. And then you drop your P.S. blurb on that bridge page with a link to the sales page of your low ticket product. I’m talking about that same P.S. blurb you put in the first 10 emails. Adapt it for your bridge page.
Step 12) Create a foundation funnel for your low ticket offer -
This will include a free version of your low ticket offer. Ask yourself, what would the free version of this look like? Maybe it’s just a small part of the low ticket offer. Maybe it’s a prequel. Whatever it is, make sure in the product itself you upsell the low ticket offer, and have a link to the low ticket offer.
This foundation funnel will also include an OTO1. That’s “one time offer” for the unindoctrinated. What should this be? A simple way to accomplish this and a tried and true method is just simply a bigger, badder version of your low ticket offer.
The OTO1 should be more than 20 bucks. Ideally around $50.
Step 13) Second Lead Capture Page -
Set up a second lead capture page for your FREE version of your low ticket offer. Make sure you have a bridge page setup that will upsell to the low ticket offer.
Step 14) Edit your first email in autoresponder sequence -
Go ahead and edit the first email in your autoresponder sequence to include a free welcome gift. This free gift is the free version of your low ticket offer. Add a link in the email.
This serves a dual purpose. It will serve as a delivery mechanism for the people who opt-in for the free version of your low ticket. And it will serve as a gift of good will for the people who join your list just to be there.
Both lead capture pages will go to the same list.
Step 15) Begin Affiliate network -
Begin the process of affiliate outreach. Look at the people doing review blogs and review videos on YouTube for people in your niche doing affiliate marketing. Make a list of at least 100 of them.
Reach out to these affiliates, one at a time. Find them on social media. Email them. Break the ice. Be a friend. Offer these affiliates 100% commission of the low ticket offer, and 50% of the OTO1. Go through the whole list of affiliates.
Most of them will ignore you. Some of them won’t. It’s a marathon, not a sprint. Relationships are the first priority. Getting the affiliate promotion is the second priority. There will always be other promotions.
It’s important to note here that up until now you have done organic lead generation. It often produces trickle-in leads. What I am talking about in this step is referral traffic. It produces buyer leads in chunks.
So the potential exists here to grow your list exponentially faster. It’s a good thing.
Step 16) Affiliate Promotions and Bonus Spots-
Now we are going to utilize that free version of your low ticket offer. I want you to look out for other product creators in your space. People who launch products and drive affiliate traffic.
Reach out to them and let them know you are interested in promoting their offer as an affiliate, but you are interested in a BONUS SPOT. What this means is that they will put a BONUS on the download page of the product they are selling. It’s a bonus to the customers, from you. There will be a link to your BONUS. That link will go to the opt-in of your free version of the low-ticket offer.
In this way you will not only make a little money on some affiliate promotions, but you will also add more buyers to your list.
Okay…that’s 8 more steps in this guide.
Now What?
It’s important to understand that the 16 steps I have given you so far, will require a degree of skill and knowledge to execute correctly. That is not to say that you should not jump in with both feet and try, because you should.
Jump in. Commit fully.
But it is just to say that you have to continue to get better. School is never out. And you have to continue to take action. There can be no true education without experience.
I am a better marketer than when I started selling used books on Amazon back in 2011. I’m better than I was when I started my first membership club back in 2013.
I’m better than when I started Epic Conversions back in 2016.
But it’s taken a whole lot of ups and downs to get to the point I am now. And on top of that the world keeps changing. The internet keeps evolving.
So what do I do? Stay hungry. Stay in the here and now. Don’t get too hung up on tactics. Focus on the principles of why things work.
That’s enough of this one. Good luck out there.
But I want to hear from you. Reply back to this email and let me know if this is helpful. Let me know if you want to see the next steps.
That’s all I got!
