I wanted to put this simple little guide together to show others how to record video on Substack, just in case anyone was a little confused about how to do it. So let me get into it…
Step 1) Adjust your mic and camera default settings on your computer.
The first step is to make sure you have the right MIC and CAMERA settings selected as default on your computer settings. Substack is going to automatically pick whatever you have selected as default and it’s not going to give you a chance to change it.
Go to “Start” > “Control Panel” > “Hardware & Sound”.
In the “Sound” section, select the audio output you wish to use by clicking “Set default.” Under the “Recording” tab, select your microphone and click “Set default.”
Step 2) Get to the Right Place in Substack
Substack is a weird place. When you are sitting there looking at it, you only have these two choices…
Well none of that is “VIDEO” post. SO how do you get there?
You need to go to your Publisher’s Dashboard like so:
Click on profile:
Then click on those three little dots and click “Publisher’s Dashboard” like so:
Now that you are in your Publisher’s Dashboard, a whole new world of possibilities opens up to you as far as posting:
Step 3) Select Video and Record Your Video
This part is easy. Just hit the bit record button and go to work:
Once you hit it, you’ll come to a screen that looks like this:
Go ahead and record your video. It’s minimalistic. You have zero options for changing anything, or for sharing your screen.
Step 4) Preview, Title and Description
Next, you just go ahead and watch the video, to see if you like it. Then fill out the title and subtitle. Also you can fill out the description.
Step 5) Video Settings
Adjust the video settings and then click that little arrow when done. Remember, you can’t move forward with process until; you hit that little arrow:
Then the video settings will be replaced with a “Continue.” Hit that if you are ready.
Step 6) Then adjust these settings which you are probably already familiar with…
Step 7) Rinse and Repeat
After that, rinse and repeat until your heart is content. Try not to have a seizure from all the overcomplication of something that should be fairly simple for everyone. lol
